Preferred Team: Cosmos

Cycle Goal: To forgive himself for the death of Gerik's friend.

Memories:
General:
1. The name "Great Dragon" is somehow important to him, but he doesn't know what the Great Dragon is.
2. He has a friend named Gerik. He won't remember what Gerik looks like, or any other details, like he's a mercenary from Jehanna, etc...

Specific:
He accidentally killed Gerik's friend and feels incredibly guilty about it.

Personality: Saleh is a powerful sage from the mountain village Caer Pelyn. Having lived in the mountains throughout his life, he has transcended the need for selfish material pleasure. He is a prime example of mankind's hidden strength, as he lives comfortably in an environment that the pampered Prince Innes had deemed "unfit for human habitation." He finds contentment in honoring the Great Dragon, a powerful entity who saved the mankind from the evil Demon King ages ago, a debt that mankind has all but forgotten. He practices Valega, a meditation that helps him bond with the world around him, transcend his selfish desires, and better understand himself. He has very little, but he has everything that matters, thus he lives free of greed and jealousy. This has allowed him to build mental, emotional, and spiritual strength.

Saleh has an incredibly strong sense of duty. He'll embark in one mission after another, helping anyone in need, or protecting his village. He will toil as long and hard as he needs to in order to fulfill his duty. When he was chosen to be Myrrh's escort, and lost her in a skirmish, he searched the entire continent high and low on foot to find her. He considers it a great honor to be entrusted with a mission of this magnitude. Serving the Great Dragon is the very thing that he lives for, as it gives his life meaning and purpose.

Saleh is not very well versed on the social front. He can appear intimidating at first glance, mostly because he rarely smiles and is generally quiet, but he always shows kindness and consideration towards others. Getting to know him on a social level can be difficult because he always stays busy, whether searching for people in need, studying his magic, or practicing his Valega. Needless to say, "fun" is not in his category. He generally doesn't talk much because according to him, words are only on the surface. A firm believer in the old saying, "Actions speak louder than words," Saleh looks for actions, facial expressions, tones of voice, etc., to understand people. Rather than listening to the words, he looks into their hearts to see the truth.

This does not mean he's a judgmental person, far from it. He sees everyone as equals, men or women, children or adults, rich or poor, soldiers or civilians. Regardless of their walk of life, each person has their unique strengths. Saleh recognizes those strengths, seeing the best in everyone. He keeps quiet about his own strengths, neither downplaying nor showing off his expertise. He is comfortable with his growth, and does not compare himself with others.

He possesses a gentle but powerful wisdom that he is more than willing to share with those who may need it. He helps others recognize their own strengths and talents. By sharing a story about an ancient hero of Caer Pelyn to Princess Eirika, Saleh helps her rekindle the courage and strength that she already possessed. He also took young Ewan under his wing because he saw an incredible talent for magic in the boy's eyes, even the potential to surpass his own. However, training such a ranbunctious student also requires extreme patience, which is, fortunately, another one of Saleh's strengths. Saleh can be stern with him, but is never harsh at all. In the end, it would be worth it to see Ewan reach his true potential.

For all of his strengths and virtues, Saleh also has his flaws. After all, he is only a poor human, no different from anyone else. His willingness to believe in people can turn against him at times. While he knew that Ewan knew the mountains well, and could possibly defend himself with his (then small amount of) magic, Saleh made the mistake of letting him rush off alone into the village just as an army of monsters began to invade. His willingness to trust may also leave him vulnerable to betrayal (though this doesn't happen in canon).

His biggest flaw would be his guilt complex. Several years ago, he had accidentally killed a mercenary, a friend of Gerik's. Saleh has tortured himself for it for years, because it was a mistake that could never be undone, a life taken that could never be regained. Miraculously, Gerik has forgiven him for this after Saleh saved his life, and they have been friends ever since. It is a friendship that Saleh feels he doesn't deserve, but it is all the more reason to be grateful for it.

Skills and Abilities: Saleh is quite the versatile magic user, able to wield anima- and light-based spell tomes. He can also use a variety of staves for healing, and causing and curing status effects. The complete compatible equipment list is as follows...

Anima
Fire (A basic fireball)
Thunder (A bolt of lightning)
Elfire (A powerful fireball)
Bolting (A long-distance attack)
Fimbulvetr (An icy blizzard spell)
Excalibur (If he achieves S rank) – (Blades of wind target the opponent)

Light
Lightning
Shine
Divine
Purge (A long-distance light-based attack)
Aura
Ivaldi (If he reaches S rank)

Staves
Heal
Mend
Recover
Physic (Heals a single unit from a distance)
Fortify (Heals all allies within range)
Restore (Cures status problems)
Silence (Prevents use of magic and staves for five turns)
Sleep (Puts targets to sleep for five turns)
Berserk (Confuses targets, causing them to attack a random unit at the end of each turn, be it a friend or foe. Lasts five turns.)
Warp (Teleports an ally to an empty spot on the map, within range)
Rescue (Teleports an ally to a spot adjacent to the user)
Torch (Lights a dark/foggy area on the map)
Hammerne (Repairs weapons, staves, and tomes)
Unlock (Unlocks doors 1-2 spaces away)
Barrier (Boosts an ally's magical resistance, gradually weakens each turn)

Limitations: Saleh has to have the tome or staff with him in order to use it. Needless to say, he will not be able to carry all this equipment at once. Like in the Fire Emblem gameplay, I will limit his inventory to five items. Generally, I play him with Elfire, Thunder, Divine, and Excalibur, and one healing staff.

Additionally, each tome and staff has a limited number of uses before they break. The magic can take its physical toll on the body. Using too much magic can exhaust the user.
