Hmm...it's been a while since I've had my clothes mended.

[He's been meaning to do so anyway, but the recent battle has cemented it now that there's a nice little rip on the front of his cape and shirt. Overall, the fabric has become worn, and the colors were getting dull. So he'll head on to the clothing shop to find something to wear in the meantime. There are certainly a lot of interesting clothes from different worlds here, so Saleh will spend quite a bit of time pulling out different garments and feeling the different fabrics. He pulls out some denim jeans...they look pretty tight. A tuxedo? Interesting, but it doesn't seem very comfortable either. So he continues to rummage through the different clothes.]

I do...though I rarely get an opportunity to attend these parties.

Opportunity? Jeez, you just...show up. Though -- [ she hadn't attended too many, last summer. it had been a rough summer all around. ] With the docks getting busier, I'm not sure how that social space'll eventually pan out.

I stay quite busy. I rarely have time for leisurely activities.

[They have beach parties at the docks? He had thought these beach parties would be at the beach...]

...There is a beach, is there not? Where there used to be nothing but desert?

[ granted, a single dock is rather different from, say, a wharf. or a harbour. ]

There's a beach. But since folks started collecting boats, they've set up a dock right in front of the best part. But you're right -- it used to be no sea at all.

I remember...the desert was flooded during the draft in that Underwater Facility. That was...an interesting experience.

[A whole beach with nothing but sand and water, and maybe a few trees...]

...Which part is the "best part?"

...Were you on that draft?

[ she ignores his question -- for the time being, at least. the underwater facility draft was one of the very few she hadn't been involved in. ]

[He remembers the draft well, and how everything seemed to go wrong, and some of his friends died because of it.]

[ her eyes drop to a pair of dark denim jeans, folding them and fidgeting with them. ]

I should've been on that one. [ the general had been there. he'd sent her his regards. ]

[Well, this happened like a year and a half ago, so there's no reason to feel depressed about it anymore.]

Well, it's in the past now. Very well in the past. We felt bad for what happened then, but at this point, it means nothing anymore.

In the past? Sure. [ a passed opportunity, passing her by. the general hasn't been seen since. ]

At least the ocean seems like a plus.

It does. I should visit it sometime.

Mmhm. But you might wanna dress appropriately.

And who is to say what is "appropriate?"

...A doctor, probably. They'd tell you that a robe'd be the first step towards heatstroke. Or at least? A very bad case of BO.

[At least both are easy to cure. Nothing a little water can't fix.]

I can take care of myself. I've grown accustomed to many climates.

Yeesh. [ she drops the jeans and plucks up a sheer shawl instead. ] Not saying you can't, buddy. Just trying to be helpful.

Hmm. I appreciate it, regardless.

[Even though the attitude kind of turns him off.]

Yeah-huh. If you do make it out there, at least do yourself a favour and pick up some trunks. Unless you like to swim in your robes, too.

I don't anticipate swimming, but I'll keep it in mind...

But swimming's half the reason to go!

Only "half" of the reason? Hmm...I suppose I would prefer the other half then.

[herotypical]

Well. Considering that I'd say the second half is...sunbathing? I'm thinking not.

Perhaps we can through in an impossible but hypothetical third half for sandcastle building.

Sun...bathing? Something like that, I suppose...

I enjoy nature in all of its forms. The reason to visit the ocean would be to feel the sun's warmth, to see the vast blue waters and the clear blue sky, and to listen to the waves. To feel the cool breeze, and smell the fresh air. Those are the things that make me feel alive and at peace.

Right, right. So -- indulge me, for a moment? [ buffy leans forward on a clothes rack, the shawl crumpled in her loose fists. ] Close your eyes.

[He's not understanding what's going on, but he'll go ahead and close his eyes...]
