[Four years. Saleh's mission has been left hanging for four years. The idea of time standing still in Magvel doesn't seem to bring him any comfort. There's still no way to know if it's actually true. And if it's not? If something has happened to Lady Myrrh? He could never forgive himself. He had the duty to protect her, and help her fulfill her mission.]

...I've been in this world for four years now. I've vowed to myself that I wouldn't become complacent, but...I can't help the feeling that I've failed. I have taken action when I could, but we're still no closer to getting home. Am I not doing enough?
mountain_sage: (Fire)
[It's been a long time since Saleh has bonded with people in Luceti. Since most of his old friends have left, his heart has been hollow. Randomly helping people doesn't seem to have the same effect anymore, because likely he would never see those people again. He'd need something that would take more than one meeting, a strong commitment. He takes a deep breath as he opens his journal, as the offer he's about to make is unprecedented.]

I never thought I would consider this...but is there anyone who would be interested in learning the kind of magic I have studied in my world? We use tomes to cast our spells, and staves for healing. The item shop keeps the tomes stocked well enough, as I have never had difficulty replacing my tomes when needed.

Alternatively, I can also offer guidance in contacting the Filial spirits. I have only contacted a few myself, so this would be a learning experience for all of us.

[This could also help with Kakashi's alliance, and the people who would like to help out with it, but he refrains from mentioning it. He doesn't want to accidentally expose anything that shouldn't be exposed.]

That...holiday is coming up, is it not? The one where we exchange gifts?

[But for the life of him, Saleh can't remember the name of that holiday. His voice quivers a bit, slightly ashamed.]

I...I'm not sure I know what gifts to give this year.

[Or how many friends he even has to give them to, for that matter. He counts friends on his fingers.] Eleytheria...

[Great Dragon, is that it?]

...What should I do?

Cut for introspection... )

[There's a melancholy sigh as he stares at his open journal.]

Kain's gone. Rydia's gone. Julia's gone. Ewan's gone. So many of my closest companions are gone. I...have never felt so alone. Only then will you realize...that even the worst memories are to be cherished.

[He gazes at his open palm, facing up, conjuring a gentle fireball...however, once it ignites, the sage jumps up with a gasp, causing the journal to drop, and the journal feed to abruptly cut short.]
mountain_sage: (Fire)
[It's another New Feather cycle, and Saleh is hard at work as per usual. Things have been pretty calm for him lately, which is a rather welcome change. He still misses Ewan, but his duty gives him a good distraction from his own troubles. And by helping others, he also helps himself.]

Another New Feather cycle is upon us, it seems. For those who have newly arrived, I am sorry to say that we cannot return to our worlds by our own means. However, I will do what I can to help you get acquainted and somewhat comfortable. I can be found frequently in the forest, so if you are lost, I would gladly guide you to the village.

Meanwhile, the New Feather stations need to be restocked, so I shall see to that.

[Saleh can be found anywhere between the Welcome Center and the New Feather stations located at several points in the forest. When leaving the Welcome Center, he is carrying larger sacks than normal – sacks with clothing, food, and medical supplies. He will be happy to help out any newbies, or just as willing to chat with old companions or even strangers.]
mountain_sage: (Wandering Sage)
[When Saleh wakes, his room feels...strangely empty. Even with everything back to normal, something still feels...off. It becomes clear within minutes. The room is empty, the silence deafening. No perky student to spice up his life.]

...Ewan?

[With barely a sound, he creeps around the room, looking for any traces. Ewan's belongings are nowhere to be found either. This can only mean one thing.]

[Saleh picks up his journal with a deep breath.]

For those who knew him...Ewan...my student...has returned to his own world. He was a growing, gifted mage, and...I am very proud of him.

[And then for the other thing on his mind. He owes an apology to a certain someone. Another instance of a love that turned out to be false. It only makes him think of Julia. While he isn't sure exactly what he felt, he knows that it was real.]

Miss Faith...I owe you an apology. My thoughts, my behavior...they were improper.

[He'll leave it at that and not drag it out. Short and to the point.]
mountain_sage: (Fire)
[Well, it's been a good few weeks. Saleh and Ewan are back from their journey and are ready to settle back into civilization.]

We're back...Ewan and I, I mean. It was rather uneventful, but we enjoyed just being together, surrounded by the beauty of Luceti's landscape. Embracing nature's creation is one of the best ways to build strength of body and mind. I could sure use a trip to the hot springs after this, though...

[What better way to finish off a journey through the wilderness than to cleanse oneself in the springs? And true to his word, after washing himself at home, he'll head over to the hot springs to take a soak.]
mountain_sage: (GBA)
[A few months back, Saleh and Ewan had made a decision to take a journey throughout the enclosure, to explore the terrains, and train themselves in survival. Now that he's heard some disturbing news, he's even more ready to take that trip. However, that was still a few weeks away, and he knows he'd better stick to the original plan. However, now would be a good time to start preparing, gathering supplies, and settling any affairs with their comrades in the village before they leave, because they'll expect to be gone for some time, perhaps a week or two. So Saleh picks up his journal and makes an open announcement.]

In just a few short weeks...on June 1st, to be precise, Ewan and I will be leaving on a journey to explore the enclosure. We'll expect to be gone for a few weeks, at least. So if anyone has any business with either of us, it's best to take care of it before we leave.

[Action]

[Saleh will spend some time sulking in his room before going out for his usual errands. Catch him at the grocery shop or the item shop, or anywhere in between.]

[Saleh's looking into his journal, looking firm, as he usually does. A few may think that he looks even firmer than normal, given his mood in the past week. He has an announcement to make, and he speaks with the certain, assertive tone that some people may know him for.]

I must apologize for my behavior in the past week. I was simply...not myself. I had been taken by the Malnosso, and this was the result of their experiments upon me. That is my reason, though it is no excuse. I am sorry to those whom I have caused concern.

Ewan, we should speak. Meet me at home as soon as you are able.

[He has an idea that he's certain that his young pupil will like.]
mountain_sage: (Wandering Sage)
[Saleh awakens in a clearing deep in the forest, sitting on the ground with his back against a tree. He stands up, disoriented, not sure how he got there or how long he's been there. He's not even sure what day it is. On this note, he decides to head back to the village straight away.]

[Those in the village can see that he's not walking with his usual confident stride. Rather, his stride is more like that of a man who's lost his way. He sits by the fountain in the plaza, staring at the ground in front of him, thinking. Thinking of Lady Myrrh and the duty that Saleh had failed to fulfill. Thinking about how the world would be engulfed with this evil energy, and how it would be his fault.]

[Once he tires of sitting at the fountain, Saleh will get up and go back to his apartment. Then he'll sit on the edge of his bed and continue to dwell on his failures.]

[OOC: Saleh's back from his mallynap, and his mallynap effect is the complete loss of his self-esteem and confidence. So he'll spend the next week or so wallowing in despair.]
mountain_sage: (Critical Sage)
[The feed begins with Saleh sitting at his desk, looking very focused. He inhales deeply, and then exhales. He then begins to speak...in an entirely foreign language. As one listens further, it becomes apparent that he's actually reciting some sort of chant. He appears to be struggling with it, though. Some of the syllables come out strained, and there's some stuttering here and there. He also repeats some of the syllables like a broken record.]

[The strained chanting stops, though, as something seems to grab Saleh's attention. He stands, backing away warily. Son, some heavy footsteps can be heard, faintly at first, but gradually growing louder. Saleh knows immediately what those footsteps are – the droids are coming. They burst through the door, stomping right towards the sage. There's nowhere to run, and no time to grab a tome and fight. All Saleh could do was shout, much louder than he normally would.]

Ewan!

[He shouts the pupil's name as a warning, knowing full well that there's nothing Ewan can do either. And then, just as quickly as they came, the droids take Saleh and leave.]

[OOC: Replies will come from Ewan ([personal profile] eagerstudent), so tagging this post is highly encouraged.]
mountain_sage: (Wandering Sage)
[Every year, Saleh had tried to learn something about love from the Valentine's Day experiment. To explore how it felt to be in love. So maybe one day, if he truly fell in love, he would know.]

[He dared not speak about the affections he had felt for certain (multiple) people, but he remember the feelings. The feelings of affection towards those people, the overabundance of worry and concern for those people, the constant worry about their well-being. And his desire to see them as much as possible, or to be with them always.]

[But this reflection has given him a recollection of earlier months when he had felt all of these things. He remembered when Julia was here, he was overly concerned for her. He knew the strength in her heart, and yet he couldn't help worrying about her, how the experiments and other events had affected her. He had wanted to be with her, to comfort her and bring out her own strength. Did this truly mean that he had been in love with her? Even now, he can't tell.]

[But now Julia was long gone. It's pointless to feel this way now. But the pain of realizing it far too late was sharp, almost unbearable. How could he have been so foolish to have not realized it before? This was one of those rare moments that Saleh could feel tears welling up in his eyes. He can't let himself cry, though. Still the thoughts rushed through his mind. After Julia, how could he possibly fall in love with someone else? Was it possible? Like any wave of painful emotions, he would have to get past them and move on. One thing Saleh could do was confide in the wisdom of others, who are more familiar with this love thing than he is. And so he picks up his journal, wiping the stray tears from his eyes, and addresses the population with a single question.]

...Has anyone ever fallen in love, only to realize it much too late?
mountain_sage: (Wandering Sage)
[Saleh returns home with so many emotions raging within him. His recent encounter with Garrosh Hellscream revealed that an inevitable battle may be afoot, although what they would fight is still unknown. The plan to recruit everyone in the enclosure as soldiers and simply break out of the barrier and control the entire world is an absolutely ludicrous plan. But no matter what, Garrosh would not be persuaded. Saleh has to stop this somehow, but obviously he can't do it alone. And since talking him out of it had been ineffective, Saleh fears that the village would respond by fighting Garrosh, and that's not what he wants either. If there's only one thing that Saleh knows about Garrosh Hellscream, it's that he is not someone that the village needs as an enemy.]

[Saleh opens his journal, pondering a setup. A setup that would need to be worded very carefully.]

I've...a question. If an opportunity were to arise...would you fight for a chance to return home? How far would you be willing to go? Is there anything you would not be willing to do, even if it means remaining trapped here?

[The emotions are very evident in his voice, particularly doubt and fear.]
mountain_sage: (Default)
Great Dragon...it's...quite crowded. I had thought that the New Feather cycle would have been over by now.

[When Saleh wears himself out from trying to help people, he retreats into the forest to get some space. Feel free to run into him there as well.]
mountain_sage: (Fire)
[Well, it's been almost a month since Saleh had received the Excalibur tome. It was past time that he tried it out, to see if he was ready to use it, or otherwise see where he stands in his magic studies.]

[So he heads to the Battle Dome and programs a basic scene, an open field of grass and clear blue skies. He feels the breeze blowing softly around him...it's perfect.]

[Opening the green tome, he studies it intently, and then extends his free hand, concentrating. However, nothing happens. No manipulation of the wind. Just the gentle breeze blowing as nature wills it. After a moment, Saleh gives up, catching his breath.]

So I'm not yet ready...

[He ends the simulation and steps out, still staring at the cover of the tome. He may not be able to wield it, but he can feel how close he is. So much power, so close, and yet so far away. Saleh can't help but feel the desire to wield this sacred power. Perhaps Kain was right, this was something worth striving for. He has reasons to continue his training and improve. The Excalibur spell was only one of them. The other reason was that his student had arrived. By training Ewan, he could train himself further. They would both become more powerful.]

[But all of that would happen in due time. Saleh gently closes the tome and begins to leave the Battle Dome. He can be caught as he leaves, or later sitting by the fountain plaza.]

[Well, this is certainly a nice change of scenery. Saleh glances out his window at the snow, but he can't tell if it's the natural weather, or another experiment happening, such as on Halloween. Perhaps some of the residents have been working on the decorations.]

[As he leaves the window, he spots the little elf sitting nicely on his mostly empty bookshelf. Now he knows that wasn't here before. The way it's staring at him is quite unsettling. Cautiously, he approaches the little creature to get a closer look at it. The elf greets him cheerfully, explaining its purpose. It then gives its first request, to give a gift to all of his friends. Saleh remains silent as he considers the idea.]

All of my friends...? Hmm...I suppose I should, come to think of it.

Cut for length... )

[So Saleh goes to the shop obtains many dragon figurines. The following characters are definitely on his list: Kain Highwind, Rydia Highwind, Eleytheria, Silver (gameverse), Isaac, Zevran, and Leonhardt. However, he does pick up extras in case he missed anyone. So if your character has spoken to and gets along decently with Saleh but isn't on the list, he'll still have a gift for them.]

[Saleh's been thinking about the Christmas ball and what an...unsatisfying experience it has been. He had never liked alcohol or its negative effects, but perhaps there was some sort of benefit that he did not understand. After his latest experience, however, he still does not see it.]

I am...curious about something. Why do people drink those ghastly beverages at the bar?

[Hopefully mentioning the bar will give away the kinds of drinks he's talking about.]

[Well, now that Saleh has had a day to recover from the draft, he opens his journal to reflect on everything that's happened.]

Great Dragon...

I've returned from the draft, but with a heavy heart. I cannot even tell if we were successful out there. To see your own friends and neighbors turn on you like vicious beasts...it's unthinkable. As for myself...even I may have underestimated the human being's survival instinct. Our dormant capabilities are unleashed when we are pushed to our limits. Because of that, we can do unspeakable things, which we may regret later.

[In this case, he's referring to his killing Leonhardt, and with a sword of all things.]
mountain_sage: (Fire)
[Those who find Saleh carrying on his normal routine, either in the forest, by the fountain in the plaza, or training in the Battle Dome, will find that he bears a heavy heart. He had heard from Isaac that Julia has been sent back to her world. Saleh had been quite fond of her, and hoped to form a greater friendship with her. Now that she's gone, he'll miss her dearly.]

[Just as disturbing are Isaac's near-constant brutal threats. During his contemplation, Saleh will steel himself for the eventuality that he would be forced to fight Isaac again, and be ready to give his all to defend himself. Even if it leads to the Forgemaster's death, which would only bring him unbearable regret. But he must be prepared regardless.]

[He's sure there were other friends that Julia had made, so they have the right to know as well. So he'll make the announcement on the journals.]

For everyone who knew her...Julia LaForeze has returned to her world.
mountain_sage: (Unbelievable)
[It's another day in the forest when Saleh runs into an odd creature. A tall, chubby dragon-like creature. Yellow, standing on hind legs, small teal wings...could this be...?]

[After fumbling with his journal for a bit, Saleh manages to activate the video function. The camera focuses on himself briefly before he turns it to focus on the Dragonite.]

Does anyone...recognize this? Is this...a Pokémon?

[For those who actually run into him, Saleh will be standing his ground, quite a bit on edge. At least this creature doesn't seem as volatile as the Charizard...]
mountain_sage: (Wandering Sage)
[After the chaos caused by Apep, Saleh finds himself in need of some rejuvination. Now that the experiment's over, and before the New Feather cycle starts, this would be the perfect time to get away for a bit.]

I'm not sure what caused the chaos after the experiment, but it has left me quite exhausted. I shall head into the mountains for a while, to take some time off. I shall return in time for the New Feather cycle, though.

[Filtered to Julia, 40%]

[Well, he's trying to improve his filters, at least.]

Julia? How fare you? How fares Isaac?
mountain_sage: (Fire)
[Saleh picks up his journal, taking a deep breath for a rather...difficult announcement.]

Drusilla has returned from death. However...she can no longer feed by way of biting. Regardless...she still must feed to survive.

I suspect that many of you will be opposed to this...but I think...

[He pauses to reconsider his wording one more time. He doesn't want people to think he intends to force anyone to do anything.]

I want to.....I want to help keep her fed.
mountain_sage: (Pondering Sage)
[The feed begins with silence, save for the sounds of turning pages. Saleh is searching backwards through his journal, trying to figure out the mystery in his mind. Since meeting Julia, he just knew that she looked familiar somehow...but he also knew that he hadn't met her before. Perhaps the journal would yield a clue, perhaps someone else who looked like Julia, or something else.]

[And then he finds it. The sketches that Isaac had drawn while he was cooped up in the clinic. One of them was a perfect likeness of Julia's face.]

Julia...!

[There are more aggressive page-turning sounds as Saleh flips to the current pag in his journal...only to realize that it is currently broadcasting.]

Oh, is this...? Forgive me...this wasn't meant to be heard. Pay me no mind.

[Well, that was awkward and embarrassing. At least Saleh won't mind explaining what that was about instead of trying to hide it. As the old saying goes, the truth will set you free.]

[Action]

[Later on, he'll head to the Welcome Center to check on the place while Rydia is absent. He'll also be gathering supplies for the New Feather stations. Feel free to catch him there.]
mountain_sage: (Fire)
Hmm...it's been a while since I've had my clothes mended.

[He's been meaning to do so anyway, but the recent battle has cemented it now that there's a nice little rip on the front of his cape and shirt. Overall, the fabric has become worn, and the colors were getting dull. So he'll head on to the clothing shop to find something to wear in the meantime. There are certainly a lot of interesting clothes from different worlds here, so Saleh will spend quite a bit of time pulling out different garments and feeling the different fabrics. He pulls out some denim jeans...they look pretty tight. A tuxedo? Interesting, but it doesn't seem very comfortable either. So he continues to rummage through the different clothes.]
mountain_sage: (Fire)
[Saleh has kept his routine of wandering and patrolling the forest. However, recently, he began to notice something strange. It wasn't unusual to see the occasional dead animal here and there, but suddenly finding more with no clearly visible wounds was strange to the sage. He didn't think much of them at first...until he spotted more and more of them, especially as he came closer to the lake.]

[What is happening to these creatures? Saleh can't quite wrap his head around this, but the village ought to be warned. His voice is filled with uncertainty, knowing that something is out there...but he has no idea what.]

There is something out here in the woods, affecting the wildlife. I'm encountering an increasing number of dead creatures. Their bodies seem intact, though their faces are pale. All of a sudden, the forest feels so...lifeless. Should anyone come out here, be on guard.
mountain_sage: (GBA)
[It's February, and that love experiment should be coming up soon. Saleh would like to avoid it, but he's forgetting a rather important detail.]

That love holiday...what day was it again?

[Action/Locked to Isaac]

[As much as he'd like to avoid his journal, he doesn't cut himself off completely, in case an emergency arises. So he carries it with him as he goes into the forest for his daily communication with nature. So he sits in front of a tree, silently meditating and letting the world of nature fill his senses.]

[OOC: [As such, this post may contain triggers or otherwise disturbing/NSFW material.]

Ah...another New Feather cycle already? Has Luceti ever been this crowded before? I'll be in the forest if there are any who need assistance.

[And true to his word, Saleh will indeed be patrolling the forest, occasionally making his way through the village to restock on supplies for the New Feather stations.]
mountain_sage: (GBA)
It has been a couple of weeks since the New Feather cycle began. I trust all of the new arrivals have gotten settled in by now? I am still keeping a regular watch in the forest to aid those who are lost.

For now, I shall take a night or two to camp by the lake. I'll have my journal with me in case anyone needs to contact me. Also, anyone is welcome to join me if they wish.

[True to his word, Saleh is setting up his tent and bonfire by the lake. He'll sit beside the bonfire, facing the lake, just taking in all the nature around him. Beautiful...]
mountain_sage: (GBA)
[First, Saleh has a small, random inquiry.]

I have been curious of something as of late. Are there any citizens who have natural wings in their own world? Were your wings altered when you were brought into this world?

[Action]

[Since another New Feather Cycle is upon them, Saleh is once again attending to his duty in the forest. He visits the Welcome Center to pick up supplies, then carries them out to the New Feather stations. Once he replenishes the station, he'll tidy it up a bit, straighten out the sheets on the bed, and fold an extra blanket on top of it. When that's done, he'll pick up a sack with an extra blanket to take out into the forest in case he meets a freezing newcomer.]
mountain_sage: (Pose)
Great Dragon...

I've been thinking of something that was discussed some time ago...particularly of the transition between our own worlds and this one. People have come and gone from this world, but most of them lack the memory of having been here before.

This disturbs me greatly, the idea of losing the memories we gain in this world. I need to return to Magvel as soon as possible to fulfill my duty, but I'd not want to forget my time here. I had believed that my experience here would make me stronger, so that I may be better prepared to face what awaits me in my own world. But if we lose these memories, will our existence here be meaningless? The friends we've made, the knowledge we've learned, any strength we've found will be for naught. On the other hand, could it be different for different people? Are there any who were able to recall their time here upon returning to their own world?

The experiences throughout one's life, both good and bad, determine how we develop as individuals. To lose all of that is just...

[He trails off, as he ponders a word to describe the feeling of losing memories. Yet all he can draw is a blank...]

[Sometime later, after he recovers from his DP removal aftereffects, Saleh heads to the Battle Dome. He sets up the simplest scenario; a wide grassy field, with a slow-moving rotted zombie as his sole opponent. Saleh stands a good distance from the enemy with his Divine tome in hand. He casts his spell; a ball of light fires up from where he stands, dropping down on the creature. The zombie is instantly killed by the attack. Satisfied that his light magic ability has been restored, Saleh ends the scenario and leaves the simulation room.]

[It'll be easy to catch him going to or from the Battle Dome.]
mountain_sage: (Serenity)
[After what feels like an eternity, Saleh finally awakens. His body feels like a deadweight, as he finds it incredibly difficult to move. Looking around, he manages to make out the entrance to the tunnels nearby. Does this mean it's over?]

[Slowly, he reaches into his robes and pulls out his journal, letting it fall open beside him. He takes a moment to gather what little strength he has to call out to the network.]

I...I need help...at the tunnels... Rydia...anyone... please...

[Hopefully that should do it. With that done, Saleh lets himself fall limp on the ground. As he waits, he attempts to take in the sights and sounds of the forest around him. His eyes are difficult to keep open, though, so he closes them softly, just taking in the sounds.]
mountain_sage: (GBA)
[After speaking with John about his death penalty, Saleh decides to leave a little warning that he'll be unavailable for a while. He's just not sure when.]

This New Feather cycle should be ending soon, if it hasn't ended already. I'll leave notice that I may be absent for some time fairly soon.

[Someone seems somewhat awkward with public announcements today.]

Good day, everyone. I'm sure you've all heard Lady Rydia's recent announcement. I am one of the scouts that she mentioned; I patrol the forest regularly, especially during a New Feather cycle. If you have need of guidance to the village, please contact me or anyone from the Welcome Center.

[There's a long pause before he moves to the next subject on his mind.]

Marriage...it is a strong and serious commitment, from what I understand. How does one build a relationship to that level? How long does it take? It has to be much different from a simple duty.

Ah...I'm not even certain why I'm asking. Pay me no mind...

[Between the constant strife of assisting New Feathers, assisting abductees upon their return, and enduring the village-wide experiments, Saleh is just plain worn out.]

I'm tired...so tired. Great Dragon, forgive me if I have need of a break. Just some time away to clear my mind and refresh my soul. How exactly does one do that?
mountain_sage: (Serenity)
[Saleh starts his day by going to the Barracks, working on the mastery of his magic. He easily casts Elfire on the dummy, burning it to a crisp. And then he pulls out his Divine tome and extends his arm to cast the spell...but nothing happens. Startled, he tries again, but still no result. He then glances down at the incantation in the pages, and he could feel it. The deep understanding of the spell is lost. Guess who just discovered his death penalty.]

[Putting his tome away, he brings out his staff and releases its magic briefly. He sighs with relief; at least he can still heal. He takes a break from his training and picks up his journal.]

[Written]

Great Dragon...it seems I can no longer wield light-based magic. I can only assume that this is the penalty I have suffered for my recent death.

I had believed that I would give my life for my duty, to protect Lady Myrrh without hesitation. But my death these weeks past has made me rethink this. I gave my life to save Rydia without a second thought, an admittedly reckless move on my part. I just couldn't let her die. That was my only thought.

In my own world, I would not have the opportunity to reflect upon this. If anything, this makes me fear death even more. Soldiers would give their lives to protect their country, their families, their honor. I had felt the same. However, if I do lose my life, I can no longer fulfill my duty. It is a sacrifice that cannot be undone. And if this leads to failure, then the sacrifice would be for naught.

I realize that sometimes sacrifices must be made, but a life is too precious. One must think more carefully about making that ultimate sacrifice.

Great Dragon, I am so torn. Does this make me a coward?
mountain_sage: (Unbelievable)
[Saleh wakes up in the forest, feeling very disoriented. It takes him a moment to regain his bearings. What was he doing out here, and why is he just waking up?]
